Premier Guitar Magazine App Recensioni

What Is The Purpose?

I have to believe that PG is not interested in having recurring subscriptions. Many login issues and when you I tap on the subscribe button I’m taken to a page with no way of actually paying for and finalizing the subscription. I guess I will just stick to the email newsletter. ADVERTISERS SHOULD TAKE NOTE.

Total junk

Don’t waste your time

Updated review

After the initial debacle of trying to get the app to recognize me, I got an email from PG telling me to use my username BUT to use a different password. It actually works and now I have to download everything that is available to me and that is going to take a while. I like the app now that I have been able to use it finally. My apologies to the code writers and programmers for the scathing original review. You could do better by streamlining the process to begin with and make it easier from start to end with the whole process. Thank you PG for the best dang magazine in print and hopefully the app continues to be a source of inspiration for my muse

First use as a subscriber - Can’t log in

Welp despite the bad reviews I decided to give the app a try, to find one of my favorite PG articles. “Unable to find login credentials”. That’s a rough first step, so into the trash this app goes. Wouldn’t PG be better off pulling this app from the store until they can provide basic functionality? Love the magazine but the app is a dud.

Haven’t been able to sign in

Great magazine, and I’ve subscribed for another two years, but while I’ve had access to the app ever since they started it I’ve never been able to sign in to link my account. In this day and age that is an epic failure.

paid subscription but app does not show my subscription

I paid for a subscription so why do all the issues show a subscribe button? I SHOULD BE ABLE TO DOWNLOAD MY ISSUES THAT I HAVE SUBSCRIBED FOR. what gives?

App never works

Great magazine but this app has always had problems since I first subscribed 3 years ago, and apparently they never read reviews or care once they have your money. Now I simply can’t open.

Cannot Sign In with iPad

Does not allow me to log in, cannot create a new account, no option for forgotten password, and no support options. I am able to login on desktop PC and Android phone, but not iPad. Please help!

Great magazine, useless app.

Just signed up and created an account, which the app has completely rejected. Prompted to enter a username on the app; when I created an account on the website, I wasn't prompted to create a username. I guess I'm going to have to stick with online until they fix this awful app.

No

...it just doesn’t work/load. Did you do any testing at all? You need a new developer. DELETE.

Trouble with latest version

Pages are really tiny and unreadable. Love the mag but I am so tired of the iPad app. I give, UNCLE!

Content good, app bad.

The content is the magazine, which is good. The app contains a straight copy of the magazine, which requires all manner of zooming and landscape aspect to make even remotely readable. Stick to the website. It’s vastly superior.

Bad App...

When will the publishers fix the App or go back to the platform from a few years ago that worked great on the iPad? Slow loading or no loading of content..can’t download with the paid subscription.

Horrible digital app. Just wasted my money subscribing

Love the magazine. Unable to download a single issue despite buying the 2 year subscription. I cannot describe how poor the app is.

Digital mag doesn’t work

Keep getting JS Data Error and a “don’t have permission” warning when downloading issue. Months ago this app worked but soon stopped working. Bummer because I don’t always want to carry around the print magazine.

Great magazine. App doesn’t work at all. AVOID

Super magazine. But the digital component of the subscribtion is a disaster. After removing it adding it a dozen times, it still won’t load magazine. I get a JS error and saying I’m not allowed to see the content. Customer service at PG doesn’t quite know what to do, so I guess I’ll be paper only since the iPad Pro version seemingly will not work. Too bad. May impact if I re-up my subscription. If you are intending to do a digital only subscription, I’d advise you to do it with extreme caution and be prepared for calling them for a refund.

Doesn't remember progress

Every time you launch the app you have to select issue and are dropped on first page of it. Also has an additional ad bar on top, even tho I have a paid subscription. The top bar is clumsy.

No matter how many times it still doesn't format right

No matter how many times they update the app it still doesn't format right. On iPad Pro with latest iOS

Love the mag, hate the app

After subscribing, tried to read an issue linked through email. There was a banner ad across the top for strings that couldn't be hidden. It was suggested I get the app, I thought, so I could avoid the ad. Downloaded the app, couldn't get the issue. I was instructed to get the latest app, and to do that I had to upgrade my OS. Got the issue after some email login problems. Still have the ad. Very slow download had to be started again a few times. My internet connection clocks at around 40mps, but the app is sluggish as far as downloading and page turns, and then there's the ad that doesn't go away. I would totally recommend against a digital subscription.

Great Mag. Too bad you can't read it.

Update: PG got back to me and pointed out that you can tap the laptop icon next to the PG logo and it goes to full page mode. The zoom there works pretty well compared to other in app mags. I am going to try reading in that mode. It is a workaround for one big thing that you can see the issue TOC better in this mode. Then you can use the page thumbnails and page number to find the article. Then you can switch back to the other mode to read the article. I upped my star rating to reflect this workaround. I think many of the issues are related to content conversion and reading on a phone. My gripe remains that people should test as users would experience the content. Hope that helps somebody. ----------- Wow what a bad app. It's flaws compound on each other. One thing the app gets right is making a long page on the phone rather than chop it into pieces where you have to zoom in and out but the zoom never settles where you want it too. But now the problems begin. The worst problem is there is no article index of any kind other than Page 1, Page 2 etc. So don't expect to find an article except by paging through from front to back. Every time. It doesn't even remember your place. Don't expect to be able to find a column by your favorite contributor. Page 1, Page 2 etc from front to back, every time. This is further complicated by content format issues. Is the page still loading? No it's a blank page. And the page up button is at the very bottom only. Put one at the top! Please! You learn that you can swipe to turn the page but about 2/3's in the page is off. So when you swipe to page up, the article is chopped off on the left with a blank space on the right. When you try to slide the page left to read the article, it pages back. Bad! There are words run together everywhere. There is an ever present ad at the top that takes up a portion of the reading space. There is only one sponsor there. My gut tells me this isn't even a popular ad type. I would have ignored it completely except it scrolls up and under not only the apps interface but also the content and the phone's status bar. It is very clear that this app is an afterthought. It would take one person at the Mag 5 minutes to tell that their beautiful and interesting content is being served to readers in a very bad way. I don't expect the people at PG to be experts at apps. But it is clear no one at the Mag looks at the app at all. Whoever manages the content in app form is not even testing their own work and has no low bar for accepting quality. They could at least go through the complete issue and catch the numerous problems that compound on each other. A complete shame such great content is unreadable in app form. And no one at PG is seemingly aware of it.

Not readable without Internet access

The magazine is great but the app will not let you read it unless connected to the Internet. For frequent travelers such as myself this makes reading the magazine nearly impossible...

Don't download

Great magazine with absolutely the worst user interface ever. Issues take forever to download, articles are difficult to read. And it gets worse. Totally frustrating especially since the actual content is excellent.

Terrible UI

Long time subscriber. Love the magazine but this is the most annoying interface of any of the digital magazines I subscribe to. Can't download or manage subscription, unable to thumb through issues easily, persistent ads popping up in valuable screen real estate at top of page, and slow and clunky reading experience. Almost given up on reading this mag at all. Really, really terrible app!

Not well thought out

Contents are terrific, but that's as far as I'll go on its good points. Why would they take up valuable real estate with an add for their subscriptions? I'm already a subscriber and their banner takes up almost 20% and never goes away! One would think that the table of contents would be easy to get to. They have chosen to keep if off of their topics list which means I need to select another topic and page through the magazine until I've reached it. I'm starting to believe that this, and other omissions are strategic where advertisers gain an advantage on frequently seen pages. To the editors: this publication is for us musicians. You already make your profits on ads. There is no need to punish readers with a poorly written app.

Still terrible

Doesn't retain downloaded issues. Makes it unusable offline. Also unstable; issues frequently will not display correctly. Even if working correctly, format is difficult to use, unintuitive and clunky. Please end this failed experiment and return to a basic magazine platform.

Buggy

Won't open issues I've purchased. Worked initially but not last couple of months. Deleted it.

Please fix!

Great magazine! Great articles! Crappy app! As above, keeps crashing, downloaded issues disappear, and so on.... My British mags work just fine - fire the dudes who put this mess on and get it fixed!

Sorry, but

Half the time it just doesn't work so I had to delete it.

Still Broken

I'm not sure what bug this update "fixed" but it wasn't the one that crashes the app when you try to download the latest issue. Every update gets worse. How hard can this be?

R.E.F.U.N.D. POS

Thanks for removing my subscription and no restore missing issues button. Lame. Are you going to be providing a refund?

Every update gets worse

The app used to work great when it first came out. Then you changed the format and things started going down hill. With the last update all of my electronic copies are gone. I can download some of the older issues, but now it wants me to pay again for the issues that I've already bought with my subsciption. Please just go back to the original app.

Why still broken :-(

I know that PG switched to a different platform for delivering their magazines, but this platform is less functional and not at all stable. Crashes 100% of the time trying to download the current issue. Back issues its crashes from time to time while downloading... So much for buying an electronic only subscription to cut down on the tree usage and not being able to download it... Argh... Great magazine, terrible electronic delivery platform. You would think that after running an e-magazine for three or four plus years they would have this well established.... :-( :-(

Still broken

New update and everything is gone with apparently no way to restore. Why does this happen with an established app and magazine?

Very Sad

All the delightful interactive features from the previous app version are now gone. New version is no better than using a PDF reader to view the free issues on the PG website.

Does anybody test the app b4 u submit it to Apple?

I have a print and digital subscription, so with the update i can now only buy the latest issue. There is no way to access my subscription or to restore previous purchases. Please fix it and test before submitting it to the Apple app store

Purchase can't be restored

Love the magazine. Had October before update. Now it's asking me to buy it. Something important was left out of the update--current subscribers. Please fix. UPDATE: the current solution seems to be to make the current issue free. So I downloaded November. Twenty minutes later, it still takes time to load each page. This new app is plain terrible. The prior app was great. Please go back. Don't try to fix the new app. Trash it. It's too painful to use. There is no reason to subscribe to this app. The free web version is far superior. I guess that I will never be able to access my saved bookmarks from prior versions. I'm also incredibly disappointed that I did not receive a specific response to my direct e-mail to PG. PG: you have mishandled every aspect of this attempted update. I can't understand how this went so wrong when the magazine is otherwise so top-notch.

Worst magazine app ever

Just opened the new Premier Guitar app and it was the worst magazine experience I've ever had. First, it forgot my purchase history -- all that I paid for was gone. Next, the "reader" is like something from the AOL days. It wasn't full page, it was slow, it kept taking me online when I didn't touch a link, it shut down twice, the page numbers in the browser didn't match the pub. Embarrassingly bad. It's enough to make me stop reading the mag. Too cumbersome.

worse than 60s transistor amp

yet another upgrade broke my subscription

Still not working

Latest fix still not downloading newest issues. App shuts down and never ever has completed a download. Past issues still missing. Slow, sluggish movement within app. Please fix. Go back to previous incarnations of app. Those worked.

New update removed subscription

The new update still didn't fix the missing subscription link. There is no way to restore your existing subscription.

New update screwed me

The same as other people are posting can't get October unless I buy. My sub shows I am active until September 2017. What gives PG?

App navigation doesnt work

There are no controls over navigation. I opened a magazine and i cant go back, bookmark or anything.

Doesn’t work with iPhone

The new update does not work with the iPhone. So I just wasted $11.99 on a subscription I just purchased in February. Premier Guitar won’t refund. This really stinks!

No past issues and crashes opening issue

New update crashes immediately on opening latest issue on iPad Air with iOS 9.3. Also, like previous reviewer, I too have no issues prior to 2016.

Removing premier gtr app

How do I get this app off of my phone? I don't use it and it keeps wanting to charge me!

Great magazine but lousy app

It takes forever to download each issue. And most of the times I have to do it all over again 3 or 4 times before it is actually downloaded. The overall reading experience is terrible. When you swipe it takes a couple of seconds for the downloaded content to be displayed!! Besides everything feels awkward. Hey Premier Guitar, find a good developer and give him some money because that app really needs a serious update.

Bad

As stated, it is super slow to download, doesn't recall where you left off, forgets your back issues and then needs to download again. Worst magazine app. on the market

Terrible execution

Issues never finish downloading, or after saying they have, then go back to “downloading". Worst of all, it doesn’t remember where you left off when the app gets killed in the background. What kind of reader doesn’t remember where you left off!?!? I’ve already cancelled my subscription not 15 minutes after buying. Wish I’d read the other review here first.

What happened?

This magazine is well written and the app was great way to read both on and offline. Unfortunately, they killed the ability to download and read offline. This change came without notice. All quite frustrating; I should have subscribed to the paper version. Right now, I discourage anyone from subscribing digitally.
